Admission to Ph.D and M.S. (Research)
(January Semester, 2018)

The academic activities at IIT Palakkad were formally launched in August 2015.   The Institute is currently functioning from its temporary campus in the premises of Ahalia Integrated Campus, Kozhipara, Palakkad.  A permanent campus will be set up in approximately 500 acres of land adjoining the Sahya mountain range, in the Pudussery village of Palakkad district.

Applications are invited for admission to the M.S. (Research) and Ph.D. programmes for the January 2018 semester, as per details given in the information brochure:

Shortlist Status

The shortlisting for M.S. and Ph.D. programs for all the departments are complete. The candidate can login to his/her account in this portal (using the same user-name and password that was used to submit the application) to check whether he/she is shortlisted.

The selection criteria employed by each department for their PhD and MS programs are available here. The shortlisting is based on the data available in the system about the scores of the candidates. If you see any discrepancy, please contact the respective departments by email before 5pm, November 15, 2017. The email-id for contacting the departments regarding discrepancies are given under the relevant section in the document.

General instructions to the shortlisted candidates

  1. Kindly bring your certificates of the exams that you have passed (B.Sc./M.Sc./B.Tech/M.Tech/M.S.)
    as well as proof of your GATE score or UGC/CSIR-JRF or INSPIRE award letter.
  2. If your test/interview is scheduled for two days, be prepared to stay for both the days.
  3. Please bring a photo-identity card, a printout of the admit card, a recent colour passport-sized
    photograph and a one-page updated resume.
  4. All the candidates have to show their marksheet and certificates (Bachelor and Masters degree) and
    the relevant certificates (GATE/UGC-JRF/CSIR-JRF/INSPIRE) in the test/interview.
  5. External registration candidates have to bring the relevant certificates from the employing
    organization (Appendix 2 and 3 of the information brochure)
  6. Institute has limited hostel facility (only cots and no beddings) on campus, which will be allotted on first-request first-serve basis. If you want to avail the hostel facility, please send an email to with your Application Number, Name and Check in and Check out time.
    The accommodation is available only to the candidate, and for the period of interview.
  7. Second class TA for journey by train from the station nearest to your residence to Palakkad and back
    will be paid to candidates who appear for test/interview. Please bring the ticket for claiming it. Also,
    you will need to give an account number in a Bank to which the payment can be made.
  8. Shortlisted candidates who have not paid the application fee must bring a DD for Rs. 100/- drawn in favour of "IIT Palakkad ", payable at Palakkad, when they come for the test/interview.
